It’s been a long time since I have posted something here, but I don’t have so much time to draw or work on new piano arrangements for now.
A few months ago I asked a great animator what I should try to animate after the bouncing ball. The answer was quite simple: a little bird, because the movement is based on the bouncing ball principle. Great… the problem is that I can’t draw birds.
So I’m working on it.
Here are some recent hand and bird studies based on the work of Kahl, Pontillas and Blair:
Now that I’m in holidays, I can make much more music, which also means that I’m going to prepare some new piano arrangements.
The first one is from “Jeanne et Serge” (“Attacker You!” for English people), an old tv-show just like “Olive et Tom” (“Captain Tsubasa”)… you know, there are dozens of episodes where people can fly (sure they can… do you know any volleyball or football player who can stay in the air for several minutes?) while they’re shooting. Well, I’ve never been a fan but that was a very well-known show, so I had to do it.
The sound is not that good. I had to record it quickly, so I apologize for the tiny little mistake at the end… I’ll do better next time!
While Christmas holidays are almost there, I finally got some time to draw a little bit. Not that much, but just enough not to be frustrated by doing nothing.
So, here are some recent studies:
And some other hands studies I draw some weeks ago;
The first piano arrangement of my life was the opening theme of a well-known TV Show: MacGyver.
I recorded it almost 2 years ago and lately realized that some things were missing… and the tempo was too fast.
I didn’t have time to make a new record which was quite annoying, ’cause I couldn’t ear the first version anymore. So this morning, while the house was quiet and between two performances of a Beethoven’s sonata, I took 2 minutes to record a second version of the opening theme.
I slowed down the tempo a little bit and added some little stuff.
The sound quality is better I guess, even if I still record myself with my wonderful little mp3 player (great to record… you can’t play Piano, neither can you play Forte… you just have to play Mezzo if you don’t want the sound to be horrible)… ‘hope that’s because I’m improving my playing.
Well, here’s the new version (also available on the “Piano Arrangements” page). I let the old one online for those who would like to compare.

This weekend I tried to do my first turn-around. That was difficult, especially when I had to draw the character’s three-quarter back view.
This is a kind of teenage penguin. Maybe that would be my version of Tux, maybe not… I don’t know yet. I’d also like to try to animate him, but maybe I should try something easier first.
This year is gonna be very intense. Interesting, but intense!
I’m working on my musical work all day long and don’t really have time to do something else… I’ll try to find some time to draw a little bit, but that will not be easy.
Anyway, guess what I’m working on? Anatomy, yep, you got it.
Here are some hands and feet I’ve just finished. They’re done from the book “Tarzan Chronicles”.
About 10 days ago I finally decided to try to animate something.
Drawing is great, but the only thing I ever really loved was traditional 2D Animation (which is very close to… drawing, yeah, I know, but that’s not the point).
So I took some paper sheets, a paper-clip, my pencil and my light-box, and I took the plunge, trying to produce my first little animation. This is a very elementary thing, called “the bouncing ball”.
I was afraid of drawing something terrific, with a jerky movement or something like that, but I didn’t. Actually, I did good (I think) from the very first time.
But before knowing I succeeded, I had to find a suitable software on GNU/Linux to make stop-motion animation, which was the longer and most difficult part in this job… I finally found one, Stopmotion (what else, eh?), which is not that bad and very user-friendly.
There are some old drawings and sketches I draw between 2002 and 2007 (actually they’re all from 2007 with the exception of the first one).
There are some good stuff, and there are some bad stuff.
The gorillas and “Tarzan” (kind of…) sketches are drawn without any models.
I’m presently working on anatomy and poses, which are quite difficult for me (but I’m not the only one I guess).
I try to spend less time as possible on each sketch… that’s hard.
